Open Board Positions

 

Wondering how you can get involved?  We would love to have you!  We are committed to building a positive, inclusive and thriving school community but we can't do that without YOU!  Below is a Description of our many Executive and Committee Positions and the work that they do.

 

 Executive Board

President    -Coordinate the work of board & committees, preside at all meetings of the board, appoint committee chairs, act as signing officer (banks and contracts), represent PTEPTA at LISD Council PTA, serve as ex-officio member of all committees
1st VP- Ways & Means    -Act as aide-to-the-president, oversee management & organization of all Fundraising Committees (Corporate Fundraising, Book Fair, SpringFest, Spirit Wear, Wrap Packs)
2nd VP- Membership    -Organizes member recruitment, coordinates summer membership drive, maintain membership records and directory, honor lifetime members, oversee Membership Committees (Hospitality and Welcoming Committee)
3rd VP- Programs    -Organize and host programs for PTE community that help build sense of community and/or empower students/families with knowledge (assemblies, family nights, etc), oversee all Programs committees (Talent Show, Arts in Education, Community Service, Dads Committee)
4th VP- Communications    -Coordinate with other VPs & President to provide timely and relevant communications about the school and district events to families and community members, oversee communication committees and groups (Marquee, Dual Language Liaison, Bulletin Boards, Social Media, Newsletter, Website)
5th VP- Volunteers    -Coordinate volunteer requests and placement between school and families, provide volunteer orientation and training, recognize our amazing volunteers, oversee Volunteer Committees (Copy Room, Room Rep, Field Day, Senior Breakfast, Sunshine Committee, Teacher Appreciation)
Secretary    -Record & maintain minutes of all meetings, ensure adoption of policies & procedures, coordinate between our PTA and Council, maintain required records, collect & preserve documents relating to the history of our PTA.
Treasurer    -Maintain books of accounts & records, receive & issue payments on behalf of PTEPTA, chair the Budget & Finance Committee, present finance reports at all meetings, file all income and sales tax, prepare annual report at last meeting of the year, prepare books and records for Financial Reconciliation
Parliamentarian    -Attend Board & Membership Meetings, be familiar with Roberts Rules of Order and advise presiding officer on questions of parliamentary procedure when asked.

 

Committees

Council Delegate 

-represent PTEPTA at Council PTA meetings, report announcements and important actions from Council PTA back to PTEPTA

Corporate Fundraising 

-Establish & maintain relationships with corporations and businesses offering opportunities to earn money for the school, seek direct donations from businesses, organize spirit events at local businesses, manage Box Tops and Amazon Smile drives

Book Fair  -Book fairs with vendors in consultation with librarian, principal and board, coordinate details with vendor, schedule volunteers to help with set up, sales, closing and coordinate all financial matters with treasurer, schedule fair visits with teacher and compile teacher wish lists.
SpringFest- Event  -coordinate food, games, and vendors for Spring Fest, promote event, find volunteers as needed, coordinate rides and sponsors
SpringFest- Silent Auction   -solicit donations from businesses and organize all necessary activities for getting donations from within the school, promote event, find volunteers as needed
Spirit Wear   -collect design ideas and quotes from vendors, promote sales, manage orders and distribution
Wrap Packs   -collect quotes from vendors for back to school supply packs, recommend vendor to board for approval, work with grade level leads to get supply lists, manage orders and distribution
Hospitality   -create a friendly, welcoming atmosphere for all members, parents, staff & students by helping to host meetings and events, provide Back to School and Teacher Appreciation events for staff, secure refreshments for programs and Open Houses, secure donations and volunteers as required
Welcoming Committee   -provide a welcome service for new PTE families, create a welcome kit for the office to provide to new families that register during the year.
Talent Show   -host tryouts, practices and coordinate production details, schedule and promote event, find volunteers as needed.
Arts in Education (Reflections)   -organize the National PTA Arts in Education "Reflections" at the school: communicate to school the theme for that year (selected by State PTA), promote the program, set deadlines, collect submissions and award prizes.
Community Service   -communicate community service projects (food and clothing drives, etc) to PTE community, coordinate drop off and pickups of items as required, create and promote initiatives that unite school community related to environmental awareness, assist with maintenance of reading garden.
Dad's Committee (Watch DOGs)   -promote engagement and participation of men (dads, grandfathers, uncles, brothers, male community leaders) on campus including Watch D.O.G.s program.
Bulletin Boards   -help change out our PTA bulletin boards in the cafeteria several times throughout the school year
Newsletter   -help compile information in the weekly newsletter for distribution to the entire school body
Website   -help keep the website updated with current events 
Marquee   -help change out the messages on the school sign off of Timbercreek, messages change twice a month 
Social Media   -help keep our families informed of what is going on by posting prepared graphics and messages on various social media outlets (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc) 
Dual Language Liaison   -translate communications, communicate PTA objectives to families in dual language program and promote involvement to entire school.
Copy Room   -assess needs of the copy/workroom including teacher's needs, volunteers and equipment requirements, manage teacher copying and laminating requests
Room Rep   -secure room representatives for each classroom, coordinate class auction basket, teacher appreciation week and assist in finding parents to help teacher with filing, cutouts, etc.
Staff Appreciation  -provide school wide gifts and programs during Teacher Appreciation Week (annually in the month of May) 
Field Day   -act as liaison with PE teacher to coordinate Jingle Bell Jog, Family Fitness Night and Field Day activities, work with VP of volunteers to coordinate volunteers and donations
Senior Breakfast  -plan and coordinate end of year breakfast for graduating Marcus seniors that attended PTE, seek donations, find volunteers and coordinate with others to send out invitations and run event
Sunshine Committee 

-Do you like making people happy? This committee is for you!  Help spread sunshine to our PTE Staff!

-Traditionally, Sunshine Committee has worked to provide things like staff birthday cakes, stock the staff bathrooms with nice soaps, sends sympathy and congratulatory cards on behalf of PTA
